New Medical Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Appointed Thomas Edward Kowalski, MD, has been appointed Medical Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Associate Professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Kowalski comes to Jefferson from MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, bringing over 10 years of experience in gastrointestinal endoscopy. While at MCP Hahnemann, Dr. Kowalski was Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Kowalski earned his medical degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo, NY, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Kowalski completed additional training as in Advanced Endoscopy, also at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kowalski has a special interest in gastrointestinal oncology, diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts, and advanced endoscopic procedures. He has lectured and written extensively on the use of endoscopy in treating gastrointestinal disorders. In addition, he is a member of several professional societies and committees and has received honors and awards from these organizations for his research and teaching in gastroenterology.
