James R. Gavin III, MD, PhD, to Speak On Type 2 Diabetes July 28

James R. Gavin, MD, PhD, will be the guest speaker July 28 for the second annual Appreciation Day for participants of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). He will lecture on "Insulin Resistance and Risk for Developing Type 2 Diabetes and Managing Type 2 Diabetes in Special Populations."

Dr. Gavin is Senior Scientific Officer, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Chevy Chase, MD. He will speak from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bluemle Life Sciences Building, rooms 105 and 107.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a clinical research study program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Its purpose is to prevent Type 2 Diabetes before it occurs. The program is administered at the University by Pamela G. Watson, ScD, RN, Professor and Chairman, Department of Nursing, College of Health Professions, and Barry J. Goldstein, MD, PhD, Director, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College.
