Greenfield School students, including children of Jefferson employees, observed the 30th anniversary of Earth Day at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital by displaying their artwork promoting environmental awareness. Donatucci, Cluster Leader for the School District of Philadelphia, joined Jefferson employees and their children, from left, Barbara D’Alessandro, Receptionist, Pediatrics, Jefferson University Physicians, and Thomas J. D’Alessandro Jr., Manager, Office of Commuter Services, with their son James, and Joanne Gotto, Educational Coordinator, Department of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, with her son Ethan. Sultana Bonatsos, liaison for the South Philadelphia School Cluster, coordinated the student project. Jefferson’s Earth Day observance included exhibits about recycling, waste management and energy cost savings efforts.

At the eighth annual Paul C. Brucker, MD, Lecture, sponsored by the Department of Family Medicine, Jefferson Medical College (JMC), guest speaker Joseph T. Sabastianelli (fourth from left) joins, from left, Mrs. Paul C. Brucker and Dr. Brucker, University President; their son Chuck Brucker; Howard K. Rabinowitz, MD, Professor of Family Medicine, JMC; and John L. Randall, MD, Alumni Professor of Family Medicine and Chairman of the Department, JMC. Mr. Sabastianelli is Executive Vice President of Scripps Health, San Diego’s largest hospital system. His presentation, “Market Integration: What it Means for the Primary Care Physician,” generated lively comments from physicians in the audience, particularly when he proffered his belief that managed care had basically failed and that relief from inadequate reimbursement for services will be found only in a national program supplying physicians and hospitals with a reliable source of income that would allow them to compete on quality and service.
