Compliance Corner
- Political Activities
A variety of state and federal laws limit the manner in which non-profit organizations may participate in certain political activities. Our failure to comply with these laws could jeopardize our tax-exempt status. Therefore, we have established policies to ensure that none of our funds or resources are used to contribute to any political campaign or political party. In this context, resources include money, supplies and staff time.
It is important to recognize that some of our management personnel communicate with government officials on a regular basis. We are careful to make sure that such communications are conducted in conformance with regulatory constraints.
Of course, an individual employee may participate in the political process on her own time and
at her own expense in any lawful manner she chooses. However, it is important that any
employee who becomes involved in politics make sure that these activities do not give the
appearance that the employee is representing our organization.
