Jefferson Medical College Surgery Department Thanks Donors

The Department of Surgery of Jefferson Medical College (JMC) hosted a reception to thank the donors who have helped the department establish three new professorships. The event also welcomed transplant surgeon Donald C. Dafoe, MD, FACS, the new Samuel D. Gross Professor and Chairman of Surgery.

The occasion honored Francis E. Rosato, MD, former Samuel D. Gross Professor and Chairman of Surgery, who now is Jefferson's first William Maul Measey Professor of Surgery, and Herbert E. Cohn, MD, JMC '55, Vice Chairman of General Surgery, who is the first Anthony E. Narducci, MD Professor of Surgery.

In addition, the Francis E. Rosato, MD Professorship of Surgery, the holder of which will be named by Dr. Dafoe, has been established through a campaign chaired by Daniel H. Polett, a friend of Dr. Rosato's. The professorship has benefited from the support of many of Dr. Rosato's patients, as well as from a bequest from the estate of Philip Gilbert, JMC '33.

The Measey Professorship was endowed by a grant from the Benjamin and Mary Siddons Measey Foundation, a longtime supporter of Jefferson, and matching funds from the University. The Narducci Professorship was created with a bequest from Anthony E. Narducci, JMC '29.
