Distance Run Again A Winner

Stepping out at 12th and Market Streets for the first annual Jefferson Hospital Three-Mile Walk for Health are, from left, Terry and John Tufano of East Windsor, New Jersey; Patricia Wallace, Manager, Patient and Volunteer Services, Jefferson University Hospital; Charlotte Vantzelfde of Ogdensburg, New York; and Alan L. Last October, Mr. Tufano received a liver transplant at Jefferson University Hospital's Liver Transplant Center. Ms. Wallace organized and coordinated the new Three-Mile Walk held in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run, which drew 8,500 runners from around the world and saw Khalid Khannounchi win the men's run for the third time in four years (below) and Catherine Ndereba win the women's for the third straight year. Jefferson Otolaryngology Team Finishes Second In Jefferson Hospital Distance Run

Congratulations go to a team of four runners from the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, for finishing second among 17 teams entered in the Corporate Mixed Team category, Jefferson Hospital Distance Run.

The four runners teaming for a "silver" finish, with their total course times, are residents Sara Pieri, MD (1:36:32), Ryan Heffelfinger, MD (1:38:57), James Albright, MD (1:40:32) and John Russell (1:40:57), a PhD candidate in the College of Graduate Studies.

For comparison, the winning time of the individual male winner, Khalid Khannounchi, was 1:01:17. He had set the course record of 1:00:27 in 1997 and won again last year in 1:00:47.

In the women's run, Catherine Ndereba won for the third straight year, in a time of 1:10:01.

The Otolaryngology team score of 4:56:01 was second only to the Unisys team in the Corporate Mixed Team category. A total of 85 teams were entered in nine team categories.
