JMC Student Council Elects New Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of the Jefferson Medical College Student
Council announces its recently elected members: David Finkelstein (JMC '97),
president; Francine Sandrow (JMC '98), vice president; Costas Lallas (JMC
'98), secretary; and Constantinos Hadjipanayis (JMC '98), treasurer. Their
terms last until January 1997. Also elected were six Student Council representatives
from each class. Their duties involve informing the Council of class activities,
curriculum concerns and ideas benefitting JMC.
The JMC Student Council supervises, organizes and appropriates funding for
more than 50 student organizations on campus. Most of these represent medical
or surgical specialties but many other groups represent sports, music and
different cultures and religions. Student Council also oversees the JMC
student/faculty committees for admissions, affiliations, alumni, animal
resources, curriculum and student affairs.
Says the newly elected president, David Finkelstein, "We act as a liaison
between students and faculty, and are proud to say that with the input of
many students, recent changes we advocated for the first and second year
curricula have been enacted and are being well received."
Mr. Finkelstein pointed out that the Student Council members continuously
strive to make the student body and the Jefferson community more aware of
their goals and achievements. "Meetings are more streamlined and interactive,
treasury accounts are computerized and the newest initiative is a student/faculty
committee for the arts," he adds.
