New York School Children Donate $2,817 To Kimmel Cancer Center In Memory of Teacher

A group of school children in St. James, New York, did the right thing. When their beloved teacher, Joan Fletcher, died after battling breast cancer, the student council of St. James Elementary School decided to donate the $2,817 earned from their annual Walkathon to fund cancer research at the Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University. The children had learned about the pathbreaking work of Carlo M. Croce, MD, Director of the Kimmel Cancer Center, in their local newspaper.

Dr. Croce extended his personal thanks to the students and school staff, inviting them to visit the Jefferson research facility.
