Researchers from Thomas Jefferson University have developed a new genetic test that uses reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to identify uterine tumors as malignant or benign.

Mutations in Cornea-Specific Proteins Discovered as Cause of Fragile Eye Disease
Researchers have discovered genetic mututations that cause Meesmann's corneal dystrophy, a fragile eye disease characterized by a lifelong irritation of the cornea and a weak eye surface vulnerable to injuries and infection that prevents contact lens use.

Placental Leptin a Possible New Growth Factor in Intrauterine and Newborn Development
Pediatric researchers from the duPont Hospital for Children, the close affiliate of Thomas Jefferson University, have identified the presence of leptin, a protein linked with obesity, in placental tissues and cells and at elevated levels in the blood of newborns, suggesting that leptin aids in intrauterine and neonatal growth and development.
