Integration update

*Riddle Memorial Hospital Becomes JHS Member

Riddle Memorial Hospital of Media will become a formative member of the Jefferson Health Alliance, a new type affiliation with Jefferson Health System (JHS) that strengthens our healthcare services in Delaware County.

While JHS expects that Jefferson Health Alliance will include other healthcare members, JHS has initiated this new relationship with Riddle Memorial, effective July 1, 1997.

The JHS agreement with Riddle Memorial makes possible a coordinated approach to managed care contracting in the area of Delaware County served by the hospital and its physicians. The alliance will foster innovative physician networks, expanded patient access to primary care services, ambulatory care sites in the area, and a broader set of specialty services.

Riddle Memorial already is a member of the Jefferson Cancer Network, and has ties to duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, a Jefferson teaching affiliate.

During the past two years the elements of a satisfactory network relationship were crafted to bring together strong community institutions such as Riddle Memorial. The resulting organization, Jefferson Health Alliance, will share many of the opportunities and responsibility of full JHS membership, while allowing a voice by the hospital's board in local governance issues.

Riddle Memorial Hospital has a variety of specialty services that include maternity care, perinatal and neonatal units, cardiac and cancer care, and substance abuse treatment. Extensive outpatient services are housed in its Outpatient Pavilion, a six-story diagnostic and therapy facility. More than 300 physicians are on staff.

*JHS, Cathedral Village Agree to Health Services Affiliation.

An affiliation agreement has been reached between JHS and Cathedral Village, a nondenominational retirement community located in Philadelphia's Andorra section.

Cathedral Village, a pioneer in the retirement industry, has been recognized for its innovative, award-winning health and dining programs. It is situated on 40 acres, and has 277 apartments for independent living, any 50 of which may be converted to assisted living units as needed. In addition, there are 148 skilled nursing beds that include a dedicated 50-bed Alzheimer's unit. An outpatient department, home health agency, companion care for daily living tasks and hospice care round out Cathedral Village's residential care capabilities.

Under the affiliation agreement, physicians from Jefferson's Department of Family Medicine will provide care on-site in the Cathedral Village outpatient department and in Bishop White Lodge, its skilled nursing facility. Residents at Cathedral have life care contracts that create a level fee schedule for all ensuing healthcare requirements.
