Magee Rehabilitation Affiliates with Jefferson Health System

On July 30, the board of trustees of Magee Rehabilitation approved an affiliation agreement in which Magee will formally become a member of the Jefferson Health System (JHS). The board action follows May's announcement that Magee would conduct exclusive negotiations with JHS.

"I am confident that this affiliation will strengthen both Magee and Jefferson as they work together to provide the Philadelphia region with the best and most cost-effective rehabilitation care," says William E. Staas Jr., MD, Magee's President and Medical Director. He noted the affiliation is subject to regulatory and other approvals.

The terms of the agreement call for Magee Rehabilitation to continue its mission and to preserve its identity as a key member of JHS. After the affiliation becomes effective, Magee will continue to manage and operate its facilities with JHS serving as its parent corporation.

The affiliation will ensure that Magee will be integral to the newly formed Jefferson Rehabilitation Network, the first integrated rehabilitation delivery system in the Greater Philadelphia Region. The network's existing and planned rehabilitation services include pediatric, adult and geriatric rehabilitation; sports medicine; outpatient care; work hardening and injury prevention.

"With a complete continuum of rehabilitation services at every level of care for adults and children, the Jefferson Rehab Network will be the premier provider of such services," says Douglas S. Peters, JHS president and chief operating officer.

Magee is partners with Jefferson as one of the nation's 18 federally designated centers for spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
