New Medical Staff President, Officers And Executive Committee Members-At-Large Elected

A new medical staff team began serving on July 1, with Marc L. Schwartz, MD, Department of Medicine/Cardiology, succeeding P. Kenneth Brownstein, MD, Department of Urology, as the President of the Medical Staff. At the June 4 annual meeting of the medical staff, outgoing President Brownstein passed the gavel to Dr. Schwartz.

Also at the meeting, the election results for the new members-at-large of the Executive Committee were also announced. The Executive Committee members include all 19 department chairmen, plus the 18 recently elected members-at-large and the President of the Medical Staff. On June 9, the new Executive Committee elected the new officers of the medical staff for the July 1, 1997 through June 30, 1999 term.

The Executive Committee acts on behalf of the medical staff and makes recommendations directly to the Board of Trustees for approval. Additionally, Dr. Schwartz acts as the liaison between the Board and the medical staff through the hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Thomas J. Lewis. Dr. Schwartz attends meetings of the Board where he reports on the activities of the medical staff. In turn, he also informs the medical staff of any new policies passed by the Board.
