ALBERT EINSTEIN HEALTHCARE NETWORK
JOINS JEFFERSON HEALTH SYSTEM

Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and Jefferson Health System (JHS) announced on July 21 that the affiliation agreement between the two organizations has been finalized, making Einstein a founding member of Jefferson Health System. The affiliation was completed following regulatory approval of a definitive agreement that was signed by Einstein and JHS on March 3, 1998.

"Our affiliation with Jefferson Health System will strengthen Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, without changing our mission or our fundamental relationship to the communities we serve," noted Einstein Healthcare Network's President and Chief Executive Officer Martin Goldsmith.

Under the terms of the agreement, Einstein Healthcare Network will manage and operate its facilities under its current name and will be identified as a member of Jefferson Health System. The affiliation agreement also states that Einstein's representation on the JHS governing board will equal that of each original member of JHS - Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Main Line Health System.

Douglas S. Peters, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jefferson Health System, noted that "Einstein brings to Jefferson Health System the resources of a strong regional healthcare network, with close community ties to the northern sections of Philadelphia and its neighboring suburbs. In partnership, we cover a broad geographic area within the Philadelphia region and demonstrate significant strength in a number of clinical areas including cardiac care and medical rehabilitation."

According to Mr. Goldsmith and Mr. Peters, members of JHS are collaborating to enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Collaborative activities and discussions are currently under way in the areas of behavioral health, long-term care, neurosurgery, genetic counseling, medical rehabilitation, cancer research, and hospice services.

Albert Einstein Healthcare Network includes Albert Einstein Medical Center, Germantown Hospital and Community Health Services, MossRehab, Willowcrest (a center for subacute care), Belmont Behavioral Health, and a number of outpatient and satellite locations. Einstein also operates a primary care network, Einstein Neighborhood Healthcare.
