With interest running high in the Fleming kidney transplant story, Jeffersons Web site became a key source of information that helped tell the story to the media and the world as it was occurring.
Daily updates and color photos telling the dramatic human interest medical story were posted on Jeffersons Web site at www.jeffersonhealth.org Newspapers throughout the region and Great Britain linked to our site.
The timely postings were set up by Phyllis M. Fisher, Director, Public Relations, Thomas Jefferson University; Jeffrey Adam Baxt, Media Relations Representative, Public Relations; and Mark Mistysyn, Web Editor, Jefferson Health System.
In addition, Mr. Mistysyn created a special email link inviting people accessing the site to Wish Them Well Send a message to the couple through a moderated bulletin board.
During the first five days following the surgery, more than 1,500 people had visited the couples site, and wellwishers from around the world had posted more than 100 messages.
