In Memoriam
Vickie D. Bennett, PhD, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, died of cancer on January 5, at her home in West Chester, PA. A native of Missouri, Dr. Bennett received her PhD in biochemistry from the University of Missouri, served as a Research Associate at the University of Pennsylvania, and joined the Jefferson faculty in 1991.
Dr. Bennett's research, funded by the NIH and Arthritis Foundation, focused on molecular biology of cartilage development, specifically the function of the extracellur (extracellular) matrix protein, fibronectin. She was a member of the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and was involved in both graduate and medical teaching.
The Jefferson community extends sympathy to her husband, Dr. Howard P. Hershey, two sons, David Michael and Brian Matthew, her father, Myron Bennett, and stepmother, Marcelle Bennett; her paternal grandparents, Ralph W. and Hazel W. Bennett; and a sister, Dr. Denise Bennett-Tritz.
