
Don't Miss the 34th Annual Martin E. Rehfuss Lecture
Thomas Jefferson University will present the 34th Annual Martin E. Rehfuss Lecture, "Challenges and Rewards of Pharmaceutical Research," on Thursday, January 8, l998, at 4 p.m. at Connelly Conference Hall in Bluemle Life Sciences Building. Nobel laureate Gertrude B. Elion, DSc, will deliver the address. Dr. Elion will also be available to meet with students, residents and Jefferson faculty throughout the day. Well known for her contributions to breakthrough therapies against cancer, herpes virus, and transplant rejection, Dr. Elion is Scientist Emeritus at Glaxo Wellcome, Inc., Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
Jussi J. Saukkonen, MD, Dean, College of Graduate Studies, and Vice President for Science Policy, Technology Development and International Affairs will introduce Dr. Elion to the Jefferson community. Mrs. Ethel F. Davis, a member of the Foerderer Family, will present the Rehfuss Medal.
Robert L. Capizzi, MD, the Magee Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department, who has known Dr. Elion for many years, says, "This is Jefferson's opportunity to hear not only a recognized expert in her field but also an excellent speaker." A reception at Eakins Lounge in Jefferson Alumni Hall will follow the lecture.
