LASTWORD® TRAINING FOR 4,000 STAFF AND EMPLOYEES TO SPAN SUMMER

With implementation of the new LASTWORD® Information System targeted for September 26, training of more than 4,000 Jefferson staff and employees will occur over the summer.

Designed to provide dramatic new ways to view and manage information, the LASTWORD® system in its first phase will replace the current CORE system.

Those receiving training will include physicians, the Department of Nursing, Pharmacy, Emergency Department, Outpatient and Inpatient Registrars and Business Services, says Stephen Tranquillo, Director, HealthLINK Information Systems.

"Role-specific curriculum and training methods have been developed for each group," Mr. Tranquillo says. "We will use different combinations of classroom training appropriate to each group in four newly established training sites, with interactive Web-based materials and training manuals."

"Because the timing of training is critical and learning the new system is crucial to hospital operations, attending your scheduled sessions is of paramount importance," says Mr. Tranquillo.

While some interfaces to other systems are still being tested, the basic system components of screens, labels and reports are developed and were scheduled for a final round of integrated testing in June, Mr. Tranquillo adds, paving the way for a summer-long focus on
training.

"Over the summer, HealthLINK staff will be working on the LASTWORD® implementation plan with many of you," Mr. Tranquillo says. "This plan includes a dress rehearsal to establish and test new processes and procedures developed for the project as well as a detailed plan for the weekend the system will be activated."
