Jefferson Affirmative Action Office Announces New Plan, New Advisory Committee Members
The University Affirmative Action Office announces a new Affirmative Action Plan and an Affirmative Action Advisory Committee that has virtually all new members.
The plan and the new committee members were announced by Karen M. Glaser, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Glaser chairs the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee.
"We want affirmative action at Jefferson to have a new direction," says Dr. Glaser. "We have many new faces on the committee and have given special priority to three new subcommittees and their chairpersons."
The three subcommittees are Hiring, chaired by Bart Murtaugh, Vice President, Ancillary and Support Services, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; Education and Training, chaired by Stacey Meadows, Esq., Associate Counsel, Office of University Counsel, Thomas Jefferson University; and Communications, chaired by Naomi Segal, Senior Social Worker, Department of Social Work, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
"As in the past," says Dr. Glaser, "the new plan helps us ensure that both present and prospective employees of the University are treated fairly and based upon their ability to do the job, rather than on the basis of color, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, national or ethnic origin, ancestry or veteran status."
"We want to reach out with an affirmative action program and diversity management information for all employees, especially in the three areas of hiring, education and training, and communication," explains Dr. Glaser.
"Our new committee members are well known to many employees," she adds. "Letting employees know who is serving on the committee will be a good first step in communicating the priority we see for affirmative action."
In addition to Dr. Glaser, Mr. Murtaugh, Ms. Meadows and Ms. Segal, the committee members are:
