SIXTH ANNUAL PAUL C. BRUCKER, MD, LECTURE SET FOR MAY 1
The Department of Family Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, announces the sixth annual Paul C. Brucker, MD, Lecture on Friday, May 1, at 9 a.m. in the Connelly Conference Hall, Bluemle Life Sciences Building.
Guest speaker, Howard R. Veit, will address the perspective of employers as purchasers of healthcare, and its impact on providers and the healthcare system. Mr. Veit, whose healthcare background spans both the private and public sectors, is the managing principal of Towers Perrin Integrated HealthSystems Consulting Practice.
The Paul C. Brucker, MD, Lecture was established by Dr. Brucker's current and former Jefferson faculty, affiliate faculty, preceptors, family medicine graduates, and fellowship graduates, to honor his accomplishments as Professor and founding Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine.
ELIAS ZERHOUNI, MD, TO PRESENT 1998 HODES LECTURE
The 11th Annual Philip J. Hodes Lecture of the Department of Radiology will be presented on Tuesday, May 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Solis-Cohen Auditorium of Jefferson Alumni Hall. The speaker is Elias Zerhouni, MD, Martin Donner Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Dr. Zerhouni will present "The Relationship Between Research and Entrepreneurship for Academic Physicians."

Explore the myths of the food pyramid and solve the mysteries of eating a healthy diet in a program sponsored by The American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF) and Jefferson Health System's Dining with Heart program.
On Wednesday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Connelly Conference Room in the Bluemle Life Science Building, Barb Whedon, MS, RD, outpatient dietitian at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; Jill Horn, chef and owner of Vorspeise at the Reading Terminal Market, and David D'Amore, wine expert from Winebow, Inc., will lead a panel discussion, "The Myth of the Food Pyramid, Unlocking the Mystery of Healthy Eating."

Thomas Jefferson University has instituted an innovative program to encourage recruitment of qualified employees for our Information Technology team. We are committed to filling positions so that Information Technology can help Jefferson achieve its goals and strategic priorities.
An Employee Referral Bonus for certain Information Technology positions has been implemented beginning April 1 to encourage employee referrals. The bonus will be $3,000 to be paid to employees for referring an applicant who is not a current Jefferson employee and who is hired and remains with the organization six months. More information and referral forms will be available in the Department of Human Resources.
All employees of Thomas Jefferson University, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc., Methodist Hospital, the Jefferson Faculty Foundation and Main Line Health are eligible to refer applicants under the program and potentially to receive awards.

The Jefferson Hearing Center of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at 909 Walnut Street will conduct free hearing screenings for employees and their dependents age 5 and older during May in recognition of Better Hearing and Speech Month. To schedule an appointment, call 5-8897.
