In 1994, the American Hospital Association
implemented the Institute for Diversity in Health Management Summer Enrichment Program to
expand healthcare leadership opportunities for minorities and increase the number of
qualified minorities entering the field. Since the program began, Jefferson Hospital has
accepted four administrative interns under the guidance of the Institutes enrichment
program. One of the students, Kimberly Evans, MHA, left, has used her experience in
healthcare administration to attain the position of Administrative Manager of Transplant
Services at Jefferson. Shown above, Ms. Evans meets with this years intern, John
Kwan, who worked in Hospital Administration. This year, Jefferson was one of two hospitals
to receive an award for its support to the program.
Jeffersons Department of Volunteers recently sponsored a Day
of Healthy Living for the teen volunteers. The day included presentations by health
professionals on emotional health, nutrition and disease prevention, a Heart Smart lunch
and a fitness event. Shown above, Santiago Juarez, Summer Intern, Commons, shows the
volunteers techniques to build strength and cardiovascular exercises.

of the Royal Arcanum. The Royal Arcanum makes an annual contribution to Jefferson for the
