Supporting United Way, Setting New Goal. . .
‘Jefferson in the Community’ Kicks Off Oct. 14

Jefferson’s 1998 United Way Campaign starts off with a new chair, a new goal and an array of community service projects open to Jeffersonians for Day of Caring to reflect our Campaign theme, Jefferson in the Community. Top that with a guest speaker who has seen the dramatic results of United Way’s contribution to the community, and this year’s campaign is bound to be outstanding, says 1998 cabinet chair Kevin J. Donahue, Director, Accounting and Systems for Physical Resources.

University President Paul C. Brucker, MD, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital President and CEO Thomas J. Lewis, both have emphasize the importance of encouraging more Jeffersonians to donate to United Way.

Consider Jefferson Hospital For a Specific Care Donation
Patient care is one of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s principal missions. You can watch your United Way dollars work for our patients if you designate your contribution to the hospital. Just insert the amount of your  gift on your pledge form, as well   as Jefferson’s name and code number – 00116. Thank you.

If you’ve never supported United Way before, please join your colleagues in contributing toward Jefferson’s goal of $225,000. It’s one of the ways you can make a big difference in the lives of people who are experiencing difficult times.

“With just one contribution you can reach out to more than one million people through United Way’s member agencies or other qualified health and human service organizations in our area,” says Mr. Donahue who was appointed to chair the campaign by Dr. Brucker.

The campaign kicks off Wednesday, October 14. That’s when the United Way cabinet hosts campaigners for breakfast from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in Jefferson Alumni Hall’s dining room. The program will include remarks by Dr. Brucker and by special guest speaker James D. Plumb, MD, who is Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Jefferson Medical College and Associate Vice President of Community Services and Public Health for Jefferson Health System. There will also be a showing of this year’s United Way film and slides of Jefferson’s Day of Caring activities at various sites throughout the community.

At the kick-off, campaigners can get their 1998 United Way mugs and their packet of campaign materials or can arrange for colleagues to get the packet for them. The campaign ends on Wednesday, November 4, giving us three weeks to reach our $225,000 goal. Throughout the campaign, campaigners will receive free coffee, tea or hot chocolate when they present their United Way mugs at the Atrium or Atrium food carts in building lobbies.

When your department’s campaigner asks about your contribution, why not arrange to make it through payroll deduction? For your convenience, you may also pay your United Way pledge using Visa or MasterCard. Help your campaigner and yourself be eligible for exciting prizes and drawings by getting your contribution in early. You may win the two donated round-trip air tickets for travel within the United States.

If you have any questions about the United Way drive, ask your campaigner or call the United Way Hotline at 3-5566.
