All Jefferson employees, staff and students are invited to volunteer a few hours of your time to help at the Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run September 26 and 27.

For the first time, Jefferson is the title sponsor of the run - the premier half-marathon race in the nation.

“This represents a wonderful opportunity for all members of the Jefferson community to participate in this world class event as volunteers,” says Jefferson Hospital President and CEO Thomas J. Lewis.

  • Up to 8,000 runners from as many as 15 countries and more than 40 states are expected to participate. There are actually three runs - and volunteers are needed for all three.

  • On Saturday, September 26, between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., you can help out at the popular Children’s Run. If you like being with kids, you’ll have great fun at this event.

On Sunday, September 27, between 7 a.m. and noon, you can help at either the 5K Classic Run or the Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run.

On either day, you don’t necessarily have to be there the whole time. We want to have our fair share of the 2,000 volunteers that are needed for the weekend, so even if you can give only an hour or two, it will help a lot.

Every volunteer will receive a special “Distance Run Volunteer” tee shirt. You can sign up for any of 11 specific duties, including helping at the finish line, distributing shirts, information and water, and other tasks. Volunteers are needed at two locations - 17th and Benjamin Franklin Parkway and 12th and Market streets.

To sign up or obtain more information, please call Patricia Wallace, Manager, Volunteer Services and Patient Information at 5-6222.
