Holiday Blood Shortage – the Blood Donor Center Needs Your Blood

Give the Gift of Life this holiday season, traditionally a time of low blood donations and high Emergency Department utilization. To help during this time and to avoid any blood shortages that may further be complicated by Y2K, the Blood Donor Center of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital requests medical staff, employees and students to please give blood from December 6 through December 20. This will help the Center reserve as much blood as possible to carry the Hospital through January 1 and into the new year without the need to cancel or reschedule elective surgeries. 

The Blood Donor Center is located at 8230 Gibbon and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment to donate blood, call the Center at 5-7791. Each donor will receive a T-shirt and be entered into a raffle for $100. In addition, each Jefferson employee is entitled to two hours off when they donate blood.
