Measey Foundation Expands its Support of Jefferson

The Benjamin & Mary Siddons Measey Foundation recently increased its support of Jefferson Medical College (JMC) from $100,000 to $175,000 per academic year to provide additional financial aid for second-, third- and fourth-year medical students. In addition, the Foundation has contributed $50,000 to the University’s MD/PhD program.
“Measey Scholarships have helped many students to receive a Jefferson education and we are very grateful that the Foundation is expanding this key source of financial aid for our students,” said Joseph S. Gonnella, MD, Dean of JMC and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University. “We also are pleased that the Foundation’s generosity will enable our MD/PhD program to grow.”

William Maul Measey, now deceased, established the Foundation in 1958 to honor the memory of his parents and support medical education in the Philadelphia area. In 1998, in recognition of its generous and enduring support of medical education at JMC, the Foundation received the Cornerstone Award, Jefferson’s highest and most distinguished honor.

Since 1976, JMC has received more than $1 million from the Foundation to award scholarships based on both financial need and academic merit to more than 350 students. The Foundation also contributed $1 million to help establish the William Maul Measey Professorship of Surgery at JMC, and has provided support for medical research in the Department of Surgery.
