Bernard L. Segal, MD, Appointed Director of Cardiology, Director of The Jefferson Heart Institute

Segal, MD, has been appointed Director of the Division of Cardiology, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College (JMC), Robert L. Capizzi, MD, Magee Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department, JMC, Thomas Jefferson University, has announced.

Dr. Segal will serve as Director of the Jefferson Heart Institute and Howard H. Weitz, MD, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, JMC, as Co-Director, Dr. Capizzi also announced.

Dr. Segal comes to Jefferson after a long and illustrious career in Philadelphia medicine. He was most recently Professor of Medicine with Allegheny University of the Health Sciences and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Allegheny Integrated Health Group, Eastern Region. From 1987 to 1996, he was Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has been Director of the Philadelphia Heart Institute since 1987.

He is Attending Physician in Cardiology at Saint Agnes Medical Center (since 1970) and at Nazareth Hospital, Hahnemann University Hospital and Medical College of Pennsylvnia (since 1996). He was Attending Physician in Cardiology at Presbyterian Medical Center from 1986 to 1996.

At Jefferson, he will be joined by six colleagues: Marc A. Tecce, MD; J. David Ogilby, MD; Gerald Scharf, DO; Craig A. Frankil, DO; John U. Doherty, MD; and Scott Fuchs, MD. As part of their new relationship with Jefferson, they will hold faculty appointments at JMC.

Dr. Segal and his colleagues will continue to see patients at their Philadelphia Cardiology Associates satellite offices located in Bala Cynwyd, Center City and Northeast Philadelphia. Effective January 8, 1999, their 1320 Race Street (Center City) office moved to 6215 Gibbon Building, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, telephone 215-955-5050.
