Jefferson Celebrates Nurses Week 1999

“Humor, Health, and Healing” is the theme for this year’s Nurses Week at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Celebratory activities will take place from Monday, May 10 to Wednesday, May 12, 1999 and will highlight our nurses’ unique qualities, light-hearted moments, and caring abilities.

Karyn Buxman, RN, MS, CSP, a nationally renowned therapeutic humorist, who is a contributing editor/vice-president for Nursing Jocularity and author of several books, will be the keynote speaker on Wednesday, May 12, 1999. Ms. Buxman will present a motivational and informative session to the nursing staff about using humor in the workplace.

Please check the nursing unit poster for the location of each session listed below:

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Call Light” (7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.)
“You Can Make A Difference” (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.)
“ Humor: Dispense With Care” (1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

Other activities planned for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s celebration will include:

  • A professional poster exhibit to display some of the innovative and creative ways that our nurses’ practice, and to improve patient care.
  • The 2nd annual presentation of the Janet Hindson Award for nursing excellence.
  • A video which will spotlight Jefferson nurses in their daily roles on the units.
