Photo Loading...Happy Anniversary, Jefferson! Three students join Paul C. Brucker, MD, President, Thomas Jefferson University, as he cuts the first slice of a special Jefferson “Anniversary Year” cake. From left are Charles Girard, Jefferson Medical College ’02, Jeff Charlap, College of Graduate Studies, and Kristen Bricker, College of Health Professions, Physical Therapy. The cake-cutting was part of the University’s Anniversary Celebration held on Scott Plaza and featuring songs by Jefferson’s student a cappella groups, the “Histones” and “Arrythmia,” as well as lunch, sodas and snacks, and a popular Jefferson historical trivia contest (see story for employee winners). Attracting a cross-section of students, employees and staff, the event commemorated three University anniversaries: the 175th of Jefferson Medical College, the 30th of the College of Graduate Studies and the 30th of the College of Health Professions. Murray, PhD, Director of Academic Computing, TJU. Over five days, Jefferson hosted more than 280 registrants, of which 50 came from other countries, including Australia, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Here, Torben Kling-Petersen, PhD, of MedNet, Goteborg University, Sweden, demonstrates to Dr. Murray (standing) and a symposium participant how multimedia software is used for medical education in Sweden. You can find symposium details, including abstracts of the presentations, at http://jeffline.tju.edu/ches/. Dr. Murray credits the event’s success to the efforts of our co-host, Suzanne S. Stensaas, PhD, of the University of Utah and her staff, to the hard work of Academic Information Services and Research (AISR) staff, and the support of Edward W. Tawyea, MSLS, University Librarian and Director, AISR . Workshops and demos were held at Scott Library. Next year’s symposium is set for the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. It’s the way you can relax, save some money and lessen your chances of experiencing “road rage.” Then it ensures that you’ll have a parking space in a secure facility while helping to reduce the demand for on-campus parking. These are just a few of the reasons for signing up for Jefferson’s Remote Parking Program through payroll deduction. At just $37.50 per pay period, it’s a real bargain, say remote parking bus riders who have used the service since it began October 1. Between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. buses pick up passengers headed in to work at the lot near the Ben Franklin Bridge and for the trip home at convenient campus locations. Skip the fuss and take the bus! Just call Commuter Services at 215-955-6417. Frequent riders are: Dawn Scardino, Assistant to the Director of the Kimmel Cancer Center; Phyllis Carpenter, RN, Nursing Service; Kathy Ludwig, Anesthesiology; Tina Bergey, Kimmel Cancer Center; and Donna-Jeanne Carson, Human Resources Information Services.
