1999 Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run A Big Success

Sparkling sunshine, marathon runners from the world over, and the Jefferson name and logo seemed everywhere in Center City on Sunday, September 19.

The occasion was the 1999 Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run. All elements combined on a glorious late summer day to make Jefferson’s second year of sponsoring the world-class half-marathon event a resounding success.

At least 50 Jeffersonians, male and female, ran the 13.1-mile course. In all, nearly 9,000 runners from around the world participated, with Khalid Khannouchi of Morocco finishing first among male runners and Catherine N’dereba of Kenya, 1998 winner, first again among the women.

These photos capture some of the excitement and fun of the day.
