Health Insurance Information
Health insurance is required for all medical students at Jefferson Medical College, and is offered through United Healthcare. The cost for the 2012-2013 year is $4,085. If you are currently covered under an existing plan, you may request to waive the insurance.
Whether you elect the United Healthcare insurance or would like to request a waiver, every student MUST complete the online enrollment/waive process. The plan brochure and the online enrollment/waive are available in July at First Student. ( The First Student Web site will not be available until July 1, 2012. Please come back at that time .) Request to Waive Health Insurance
Only those plans which provide comprehensive comparable coverage will be accepted as appropriate alternate insurance and must meet the following requirements:
- Outpatient office visits in the Philadelphia area
- Prescription drug coverage
- Ancillary service coverage (x-ray, lab, etc.) in Philadelphia
- Outpatient mental health coverage in the Philadelphia area
- The yearly premium plus the deductible may NOT total more than $4,085
Each waiver request will be reviewed to assure comparable coverage prior to approval. If your current plan expires prior to the end of the school year, you may enroll in the United Healthcare plan at a pro-rated charge.
Dental Insurance
Optional dental insurance is available through Delta Dental. Plan details and the enrolment form are available below. (Plan details for 2012-2013 will be available soon.)
