Jeff IT Letter to Incoming Students
In order to assist new students with orientation and to explain the computing environment at Jefferson, several areas that will be of importance are summarized below.
Most IT information is available and questions can be answered by visiting the Jeff IT web site (at JeffIT.jefferson.edu) and clicking on the Student panel on the “Who Are You?” top banner. All student services and applications are listed there. If you are unable to find an answer, call the Jeff IT Service Desk at (215) 503-7600.
All TJU students are bound by the appropriate use and behaviors policies listed in the Computing Policies and Governance link on JeffIT.jefferson.edu.
The Campus Key account is your login credential to access all Jefferson applications and IT services. This Campus Key is used to authenticate your identity and grant you access to TJU computing services. The Campus Key uses the convention of ‘fml###’ where f, m and I are your first, middle and last initials and ### is a number. If your middle name is unknown, you may find ‘x’ instead.
If you don’t know your Campus Key, you can find it by visiting the Campus Key Lookup on the Jeff IT web site. Your initial password is usually your first initial and last initial in lower case, last four digits of your social security number, and your first and last initial in upper case, for example: ms1234MS. This change will take effect on September 9, 2012. You will be notified if a different password was created for you. Always change your initial password using the Campus Key Help under Quicklinks at http://jefferson.edu/jeffit/.
Pulse, located at https://pulse.jefferson.edu, is a university web portal providing access to a variety of resources and applications for students, faculty, and staff. It includes: course information, departmental and research web sites, JEFFLINE, JeffMail, and directories.
JeffMail is the university email system. Jefferson email addresses are easy to remember; the address is generally represented as firstname.lastname@example.org. This is the email address that students should provide to others as their email address at TJU. JeffMail email is the only formal method of electronic communications between TJU and students, faculty and staff. It is also the primary way in which advisors, instructors, and other faculty and staff communicate with students. It is very important that all students check their JeffMail email account at least once per day; this will ensure no important emails are overlooked. In addition, important information will be sent periodically leading up to First-Year Orientation. To access JeffMail, enter Pulse and click on the JeffMail tab, or type http://JeffMail.jefferson.edu into your Internet Explorer browser.
Banner is a student registration web application. You can register for classes, display class schedules, grades, and transcripts, as well as review financial aid requirements and awards. You can also update your address, phone, email, emergency contact information, etc. To access Banner Web, go to the Jefferson Pulse Portal, and click on the Banner tab after logging in.
JeffShare provides 500 MB of secure, next-generation, network-based storage to the student community. To access JeffShare, point Internet Explorer browser to http://JeffShare.jefferson.edu, or click on the JeffShare tab in Pulse. JEFFLINE is the online center for knowledge-based information, brought to you by Academic & Instructional Support & Resources (AISR). Scott Memorial Library provides databases, full-text collections, and almost all library services via JEFFLINE. To access JEFFLINE, login to the Jefferson Pulse Portal using your Campus Key and password and click on the "JEFFLINE" tab.
All students need to self-register the computer(s) they use to access TJU’s wireless network once per semester. This is a simple process required for security reasons. When activated, self-registration will present you with a screen when you open your Internet Explorer browser. Simply enter your campus key and password along with some identifying information. This information will help us to identify you should the network detect viruses or other problems with your computer.
Jeff IT is continually upgrading and expanding the JeffWireless network. Access is currently available in all dormitory residences and most classrooms. All students are able to gain access to the wireless network. However, your computer needs to be configured.

If you require assistance with your wireless setup please call Jeff IT Service Desk at (215) 503-7600. If your problem cannot be resolved on the phone, an appointment will be set to bring your computer to the Student Support Center on the 20th floor of the Edison Building, located at 130 S. Ninth Street on campus.
Supported Computers & Operating Systems
Students are not required to bring a computer on campus. We have computer labs and the library is open 24/7 with computers available for all students and faculty. Although, most students do choose to bring their own computers for convenience, and if you plan to purchase a new computer, we suggest a laptop.
