Center researchers are working with faculty in the Jefferson Interprofessional Education Center (JCIPE) and the Center for Collaborative Research to develop and evaluate instruments to assess the impact of new programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of students’ ability to work with a broad spectrum of medical and health professionals.

Four instruments are currently being developed and tested.

Jefferson Chronic Illness Survey - A four-page questionnaire developed in 2007 to measure students’ attitudes toward, and beliefs about chronic illness, including the role of medical and nursing professionals in interdisciplinary care.  A manuscript based on data from 4 samples of medical and nursing students is currently under review.

Jefferson Scale of Physician-Nurse Collaboration - A brief instrument developed over a decade ago to gauge the attitudes of nurses and physicians.  For further information see references below.

Interdisciplinary Education Perception Scale - Adapted from the work of Luecht R. M. et al, (Journal of Allied Health, 1990, 19(1): 181-191), this one-page form assesses the attitudes of medical and health professions students toward their own profession.

Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale - Adapted from the work of Parsell & Bligh (Medical Education, 1999, 33: 95-100), this one-page tool assesses the attitudes of medical and health professions students toward interprofessional education and teamwork as professionals.
