Basic Intellectual Property & Technology Commercialization Presentation

The presentation will cover some of the typical intellectual property (IP) concepts and issues managed by university technology transfer offices. The three major topics will be: i) Basic IP, ii) Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), and iii) Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs). In Basic IP, OTT will provide an overview of the invention disclosure process, the TJU Patent Policy, inventorship and ownership, joint inventions with third parties, patentability and patent prosecution, and technology marketing and licensing. In the MTAs discussion, OTT will describe the function and importance of the MTA, compare university and company documents, and explain some of the issues and challenges in negotiating the MTA IP terms. The CDA discussion will cover the purpose and process of establishing confidentiality prior to disclosing IP to a third party outside of TJU.
