Basic Science Track
In a 36-month fellowship, if a fellow elects to pursue basic science interests, the last 12-18 months will be devoted to lab time. The first 18 months will be used to cover the core rotations in hematology and oncology. Elective time may include hematopathology, transfusion medicine, radiation oncology and/or the hemophilia center. Continuity clinics in hematology and oncology continue through the first and second years. The continuity clinics may be decreased to one-half day per week for some fellows actively involved in basic science research after discussion with the fellowship committee and the lab mentor.
Clinical Research Track
In a 36-month fellowship, if a fellow elects to pursue clinical research interests, the last 12-18 months will be devoted to clinical research as well as some clinical rotations. The first 24 months will be used to cover the core rotations in hematology and oncology and electives such as hematopathology, transfusion medicine, radiation oncology and/or the hemophilia center. Continuity clinics in hematology and oncology continue through all three years. Multidisciplinary clinics are also required for upper year fellows.
