Research and Clinical Interests
Dr. Gao, the Head of the Animal Models of Human Disease Core in the Center also the Head of Animal Physiology and Surgery Core of PPG. is a key investigator for several of Dr. Koch's federally funded research awards. He is extensively trained in cardiac surgery and physiology, specifically in mouse and rat models of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R), and myocardial infarction (MI). He is responsible for the gene delivery in all animal models and evaluation of those interventions using both echocardiography and invasive hemodynamic methods. He also oversees the animal surgical training of students and fellows. His study interest is myocardial protection in models of I/R and MI. |
