Curriculum Vitae

  • Your CV will give a snapshot of what you have accomplished. There are many ways to format a CV, so yours may look completely different from your roommate's version. We have compiled several sample CV's from recent graduates to help you get started. Please visit our Pulse site for specific examples. (Click Organizations > JMC Student Affairs > Career planning to find sample cv's). Use these as a guide only.

  • Please send a copy of your CV to Dr. Pohl at charles.pohl@jefferson.edu. This is helpful when clarifying details and finalizing your MSPE.

  • Some general guidelines include:

    • Gaps: Clearly identify any gaps in your education

    • Order: Reverse chronological order

    • Language: Succinct and abbreviated language

  • Following the ERAS headings:

    • Personal data: Include full name, address, phone number and email where you can be reached

    • Medical Education: Doctor of Medicine anticipated, 6/2004

    • Undergraduate Education: Include degree granted, field of study

    • Medical School Honors and Awards: Be sure to include letters of commendation earned in basic science courses, High Honors received on clinical rotations, and membership into AOA or Hobart Armory Hare Honor Society

    • Employment: Include position held, organization, dates, responsibilities, if appropriate. Concentrate on those medically/research related, or previous careers. Again use this space to point to gaps in your education.

    • Research Experience: As above, include position held, name of supervisor, responsibilities (e.g., bench vs. clinical research)

    • Publications/presentations/Poster sessions: List all, in reference format.

    • Volunteer Experience: List your activities while in medical school, including leadership positions held. You may want to briefly describe the function of the group. Also list any experiences prior to medical school which add to your CV.

    • Examinations: USMLE Step 1 passed 6/2004

    • Other Awards/Accomplishments: List any other significant honors which you feel enrich your CV.

    • Hobbies & Interests: Add anything that may help you stand out, including languages spoken
