Current Studies
The Mood Disorders Program is actively seeking participants for the following two studies. Participants will be reimbursed for their time and for travel.
- Symptom Assessment Project. Patients who are about to start any psychiatric medication prescribed by their own doctor will answer questions on a computer about physical and mental symptoms they have due to any reason. Then, two weeks after starting the medication, they will again answer questions about their physical and mental symptoms, both on the computer and in person.
- Difficult to treat clinical depression. Patients with clinical depression who have not responded adequately to a trial of a standard antidepressant may be suitable for participation in an ongoing clinical trial in which some participants will have another medication added to an antidepressant to assess if the combination treatment is more effective than the antidepressant alone.

Our Research
The Department is focused on clinical research. We investigate the symptoms and treatments of various psychiatric illnesses, including Alzheimer’s disease and novel treatment modalities (MBAT-Mindfulness-based Art Therapy).
The department is made up of a large number of skilled physicians, psychologists, a social worker, a nurse practitioner, researchers, and dedicated support staff. Faculty and staff have family, psychiatric, and mental health specialties.
Our Mood Disorders Program is conducting innovative research on the identification and treatment of the side effects of psychiatric medications. In addition, it conducts clinical trials of potential new medications for mood disorders
