Research and Clinical Interests
Dr. Showalter specializes in treating patients with genitourinary, gynecologic, and gastrointestinal cancers, as well as soft tissue sarcoma.  His practice involves advanced external beam radiation therapy techniques, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy, prostate seed implants and high-dose rate brachytherapy.  As a clinical researcher, he is focused on improving outcomes for patients through the analysis of outcomes in large databases, by testing new methods to improve the technical aspects of radiation delivery, and by leading clinical trials to test shorter courses of radiation therapy and new systemic therapy approaches in combination with IMRT for high-risk prostate cancer. His research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations at national meetings Dr. Showalter is also Associate Director of the residency program and director of the medical school educational programs in radiation oncology at Jefferson, and was selected by the residents to receive the 2010 Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology Educator of the Year Award.
