We are pleased to announce that three DaVinci Robotic Systems are in place at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for utilization during the residency program.  This includes a high-definition, dual-console model equipped with a surgical simulation package to safely facilitate robotic training at the earliest point in residency.  Residents will also have the opportunity to train with our affiliate faculty at Bryn Mawr Hospital in additional robotic and advanced laparoscopic procedures.

Please note that the Resident Rotation Schedule shown below is for general reference only as our training program is in transition from two to three residents a year. All residents will receive similar training throughout their six-year residency experience, however the sequencing of the rotations in Years 2-5 may vary slightly from the block schedule show below.

Courses & Conferences

The residents will receive compensation for the registration and travel expenses for conferences at which they are presenting original research, whenever possible.

Conferences

The Department of Urology has designed both didactic and group participation conferences to enhance and encourage resident education. Conferences held  include:

  • Pre-operative Conference (weekly)
  • Residents Didactic Conference (weekly)
  • Kimmel Cancer Center – Genitourinary Multidisciplinary Pathology and Management Conference (weekly)
  • Clinical Research Protocol Conference (twice a month)
  • Prostate Cancer Lecture Series (monthly)
  • Prostate Cancer Working Group (Basic Science Conference) (monthly)
  • Journal Club (monthly September to June)
  • Grand Rounds (weekly)
  • Teaching Rounds (weekly)
  • AI Dupont Visiting Professor in Pediatric Urology (annual)
  • David M. Davis Visiting Professor (annual)

Other meetings that residents and students can participate in include the weekly renal Transplantation Conference and a variety of Kimmel Cancer Center basic science and Grand Rounds programs.

Informational Resources

Medical libraries are available at all rotation sites. The most noted is Jefferson University. This library houses more than 150,000 volumes, 1,700 journal titles and its JEFFLINE computer link to 10 other major libraries. Full Internet access and university email capabilities are also available to all residents. The Department of Urology has an educational urologic library, where residents have full access to basic urologic texts, journals and multimedia focused on improving resident studies.
