Who Should Attend:
This course, with an additional optional hands-on Saturday morning session, serves as a comprehensive review for the practicing clinician

Program Description:
This three-day program provides a more in-depth coverage of ultrasound applications in obstetrics and gynecology.  Approximately three-quarters of the program is devoted to obstetrics and the remainder to gynecology.

Practicing clinicians and sonographers will be able to refresh their knowledge in gynecological areas such as the post-menopausal uterus, endometrial disorders, adnexal masses, transvaginal imaging and obstetrics including problem solving with obstetrical measurements, exposure to Doppler in Ob/Gyn, bioeffects and invasive procedures.

Lecture topics:

A typical course schedule includes presentations on:

  • Physics and Instrumentation and Bioeffects in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound
  • Obstetrical Measurements Workshop
  • Normal Pelvic Anatomy and Anatomic Variants
  • Doppler Applications in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Imaging Techniques Including Transvaginal Scanning
  • Fetal Anomalies
  • Transvaginal Pelvic Scanning Techniques (Demonstration)
  • Ultrasound of Multiple Gestation
  • Sonography of Gynecological Disorders
  • Biophysical Profile and Fetal Well Being
  • First Trimester Sonography Including Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Sonography of the Placenta and Cervix
  • Detailed Fetal Anatomic Survey
  • Amniocentesis and Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
  • Demonstration of Normal Obstetrical Ultrasound Scan
  • Applications of 3-D Obstetrical Ultrasound

  • Assessment of Fetal Age and Growth
  •

Both transabdominal and transvaginal scanning techniques are presented in classroom.  During the optional Saturday morning hands-on scanning session participants have an opportunity to utilize a wide range of ultrasound instruments during scanning of live models with both transabdominal and transvaginal Gyn scanning on non-pregnant models, and transabdominal scanning on third trimester pregnant models.

    Educational Objectives:
After attending this course, the participant should be able to:

    • recognize the acoustic representation of normal anatomy of the fetus and the female pelvis
    • describe the capabilities and limitations of ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • identify pathologies of the fetus, uterus, and ovaries from ultrasound images
    • perform basic ultrasound scanning of the non-pregnant female pelvis

    CME Credits and Tuition:
The program is approved for 20.5 hours of AMA Category I credit.
