CME Courses > Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal Ultrasound
February 4-6, 2010
July 8-10, 2010
Program Coordinator: Oksana H. Baltarowich, MD
Who Should Attend:
Physicians, clinicians, medical professionals, and cross-training
technologists interested in the sonographic manifestations of normal and
pathologic conditions of abdominal organs. Scanning experience is recommended.
Program Description:
The two-day Abdominal program covers the broad range of applications for
ultrasound evaluation of the abdomen. The program consists of lectures
supplemented by demonstrations and case reviews. The Saturday optional hands-on
experience with live models is provides an opportunity for clinicians to hone
skills and develop new ones.
Emphasis is placed on an integrated approach combining details of normal
ultrasound anatomy and typical ultrasound patterns of abdominal pathology.
Lecture Topics:
Specific lecture topics include a review of principles of ultrasound physics,
instrumentation and imaging techniques including Doppler, and ultrasound evaluation of:
|
Detailed abdominal vascular anatomy |
|
Liver |
|
Biliary System |
|
Kidneys and Retroperitoneum |
|
Pancreas |
|
Spleen |
|
Great Vessels |
|
Thyroid and Parathroid |
|
Urinary Bladder |
|
Scrotum |
|
Pediatric Abdomen (limited) |
A typical class day runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. An optional hands-on
scanning session is available on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to approximately
noon. This session allows students the opportunity to scan models using a
variety of ultrasound equipment.
Educational Objectives:
Through attending this course, the participant should be able to:
- appreciate the relationship between acoustic physics and the sonographic representation
of tissue
|
- recognize the acoustic representation of normal abdominal anatomy and identify
pathologies of the abdomen from ultrasound images
|
- understand and discuss the capabilities and limitations of ultrasound evaluation of the
abdomen
|
