Who Should Attend
The course is designed for physicians, sonographers and other allied health professionals.

Program Description
This three day program consists of the following 1 day components:
Day 1 Principles of 2D and M-Mode
Day 2 Doppler Echo
Day 3 3D/4D Echo

The Fundamentals program provides a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles and techniques of M-Mode, 2D, conventional and color flow Doppler echo as well as 3D/4D echocardiography. At the end of the classroom sessions, participants have an opportunity to practice and apply the knowledge they have acquired by joining an optional, intense practicum.  This session provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience.  Scanning in tutorial groups is conducted under the guidance of experienced echocardiographers.

  • Fundamentals of Cardiac Ultrasound 2D imaging and Doppler Principles
  • Cardiac Anatomy and Echocardiography
  • Doppler Hemodynamics
  • The Comprehensive Echo Exam
  • Mitral Valve Disease: The 3 M's Mitral Regurgitation, Mitral Stenosis, Mixed Lesions
  • Aortic Valve Disease Aortic Regurgitation, Aortic Stenosis Mixed Lesions, Low Output Aortic Stenosis
  • Left Ventricular Function Quantitative and Qualitative Methods
  • Tricuspid Valve Disease and Right Heart Pressures
  • Prosthetic Heart Valves
  • Pericardial Disease
  • Diastology and Filling Pressures
  • Case Studies and Presentations
  • The Embolic Patient
  • Peri-operative Echo

Educational Objectives:
On completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • identify and describe the uses of the basic modes of display for cardiac assessment
  • recognize normal anatomy and pathology of the heart using echocaridographic images and measurements
  • describe the use of Doppler ultrasound in assessment of blood flow within the heart
  • list the elements essential to a basic echocardiographic examination

CME Credits and Tuition:
This program is approved for 6.5 hours per day; 19.5 for entire 3 day course of AMA Category I credit.

Tuition:
$400 per day; $1,200 for entire 3 day course
