Program Description:
This one-day course begins with the
anatomy, physiology, and common pathologic conditions of the breast. Clinical breast
evaluation and mammography will be discussed as an introduction to sonographic evaluation
of the breast. Additionally, ultrasound-guided interventional procedures and examination
of silicone gel breast implants will be covered.
In addition to the didactic component,
this program also provides an optional practical hands-on experience with live models,
biopsy phantoms, and a variety of instruments in a Saturday morning session,
9:00 am to
approximately noon.

- Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration and Core Biopsy
- Overview of Breast Physiology and Pathology
- The Procedures of Screening and Diagnostic Mammography
- Scanning the Normal Breast
- Silicone Gel Implant Imaging
- Advances in Sonomammography
Educational Objectives:
After attending the entire course, the participant should be able to:
- recognize the acoustic representation of normal breast anatomy acquired
through high resolution scanning
- understand the sonographic depiction and limitations of silicone gel implant
evaluation
- identify and form a differential diagnosis of pathologic conditions of the
breast
- understand the procedures of ultrasound-guided biopsy
