Nurse Anesthesia Scholarship
Award Program
About CRNAs Nurse anesthesia is an advanced clinical nursing specialty. As anesthesia specialists, CRNAs administer approximately 30 million anesthetics to patients in the United States each year. They are the sole anesthesia providers in more than two-thirds of rural hospitals.
CRNAs are in demand and therefore have many opportunities for general or specialty practice throughout the U.S.
Reflecting the level of responsibility, CRNAs are one of the best paid nursing specialties. The reported average annual salary in 2005 was approximately $160,000. Source: American Association of Nurse Anesthetists
Jefferson’s fully-accredited Nurse Anesthesia program prepares nurses to provide anesthesia care during surgical and obstetrical procedures; and to provide pain relief in hospitals of all sizes, outpatient clinics and physicians’ offices.
Students in this 30-month, eight-semester program take 74 credits within three cores of study: 1) nursing that includes a research component, 2) anesthesia and 3) clinical. Its full-time curriculum integrates didactic coursework with over 1,000 hours of clinical rotations, ensuring that students will administer more than 550 anesthetics to patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical and/or diagnostic procedures.
Students may be able to transfer in eligible coursework. Students with transfer credits and/or who have completed master’s core courses complete the program on the same schedule as those starting with no credits. Tuition is charged and financial assistance is awarded based on the actual number of credits a student takes each semester.
