Acute Care Advanced Practice Nurse

The Acute Care Advanced Practice Nurse is prepared to assess and manage the full continuum of care services for the acutely and critically ill. The core knowledge provided in the specialty course work is based on the full spectrum of high acuity patient care needs. Upon completion of the Acute Care APN curriculum, the nurse is eligible for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Adult Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).

Adult Advanced Practice Nurse

The Adult APN acquires advanced knowledge for the roles of both clinical nurse specialists and adult nurse practitioners. The APN is prepared to manage the entire continuum of care for patients in a variety of health care settings. Upon completion of the Adult Advanced Practice Nurse track, students are eligible for Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification and/or Clinical Nurse Specialist through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Community Systems Administration (CSA)

The professional nurse with the CSA specialty will focus on prevention and primary care. A variety of emerging healthcare organizations are demanding visionary nursing leaders in administrative roles. The nurse will gain knowledge and skills necessary to plan, design, and evaluate healthcare programs in a variety of settings. The professional nurse with the CSA specialty focuses on prevention, program planning, leadership in administrative roles, and has an overall population focus. The various settings for the CSA graduate are diverse, with examples including public health departments (local, state, federal health agencies), school health programs, community health centers, clinics, shelters, home health and hospice agencies, faith-based organizations, academic and research organizations, nursing centers, and hospital administration.

Graduates of the CSA program are eligible for Advanced Public Health Nurse certification.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

The professional nurse will be educated to deliver comprehensive primary care to clients from infancy to adulthood. The curriculum emphasis is on interdisciplinary collaboration and strategies for meeting patients' primary care needs through a family-centered approach to health promotion and illness intervention. Upon completion of the Family Nurse Practitioner track, students are eligible for Family Nurse Practitioner Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP)

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program prepares graduates in the care of neonates and their mothers. NNPs practice in hospitals, neonatal intensive care units, labor and delivery, outpatient clinics and transport services providing and managing comprehensive health care to critically ill neonates and their families as well as collaboration with maternal child health care disciplines. Graduates of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program are eligible for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification through the National Certification Corporation (NCC).

The NNP program is part of a Neonatal Education Consortium with the University of Delaware and the College of New Jersey. Nursing Informatics (NI)

The Nursing Informatics Specialty prepares the professional nurse to address the clinical information and knowledge issues facing healthcare now and in the future. Specific focus includes development and implementation of clinical information systems for data analysis, patient care management or education and provide clinical education, research and knowledge dissemination alternatives. The NI specialty prepares student to support the delivery of health care with a combination of computer science, information science, and nursing science. Nursing Informatics specialists have been extremely effective in collaborating with other health disciplines to better use information systems to analyze patient and clinical performance data and incorporate roles associated with education, project management, product design, consultancy, and performance of research and evaluation of health care outcomes. Graduates of the Nursing Informatics Specialty are eligible for Nursing Informatics Clinical Nurse Specialist certification through the American Nurses' Association.

Pediatric Advance Practice Nurse (Primary Care)

The purpose of the Pediatric APN specialty in primary care is to prepare graduates in the advanced care to children and their families. Pediatric advanced practice nurses provide care in clinical practice, school-based health, home health, public health, acute and long-term care settings. The Pediatric APN is prepared to manage the direct care of infants and children, and incorporate the various roles associated with advanced nursing practice in a variety of care settings. The Pediatric APN graduates are eligible for Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and/or Clinical Nurse Specialist certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).

Women's Health Care Practitioner (WHNP)

The Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares graduates in the care of women throughout the lifespan across the health-illness continuum.  WHNPs practice in hospitals, labor and delivery units, outpatient clinics, and primary care practices providing and managing comprehensive health care to women, as well as collaborating with the inter-professional health care team.

The master’s program includes 18 credits of core courses and nine credits of support courses, as well as three clinical courses in the area of women’s health. These courses include health promotion and maintenance of the well woman and pregnancy; infertility and high risk pregnancy; and gynecologic disorders, such as abnormal breast conditions, gynecologic and urologic disorders, abnormal pap smears, pelvic pain, menopause disorders and mental health issues. Clinical courses will be held in inpatient and outpatient settings.

The 18-credit post-master’s certificate includes the support and clinical components of the master’s degree program. Both the master’s and the post-master’s programs are offered on a full-time and part-time basis.

Graduates of the Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner program are eligible for Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner certification.
