DNP Graduates Recognized
Nina Anderson, 2012 DNP graduate, had a manuscript, “Characteristics of Acute Care Utilization of a Delaware Adult Sickle Cell Disease Patient Population,” accepted to the journal Population Health Management.
Peggy Lyons, 2012 DNP graduate, was awarded a Sigma Theta Tau International, Alpha Nu Chapter Research Award. Her article, "Parenteral Inotropic Therapy in the Home: An Update for Home Care and Hospice," was published in Home Healthcare Nurse in April 2013.
An article by Yvette Winstead, 2012 DNP graduate, “Evaluating and Managing Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections Associated With Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus for Outpatients: A Review of the Literature,” was published in Clinical Scholars Review, The Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice in October 2012.
MSN Grads Publish in National Journals
Loretta Cavaliere, RN, MSN, OCN, a 2012 graduate of the MSN program, published an article, “Thromboprophylaxis in Ambulatory Lung Cancer Treatment,” in the February 2013 issue of Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing.
After earning the Most Outstanding Capstone award for her final project in her Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) program in August 2011, Thalia Cordaro could have sat back and enjoyed her success. But the new MSN graduate took her project, an evidentiary review of the use of skin wraps in the delivery room for preterm, low birth weight infants, even further. First she had it accepted for publication in the June 2012 issue of Newborn and Infant Nursing Reviews. Then her poster presentation was accepted for the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) Annual Educational Conference in Palm Springs, California, in October 2012.
Diana Hill Eisenstein, MSN graduate, published an article, “Anticoagulation Management in the Ambulatory Surgical Setting,” in the April 2012 issue of the AORN Journal of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses.

Dr. Janice Miller received outstanding recognition for her practice inquiry project, A Text Messaging System to Improve Glucose Control and Retinopathy Screening in Patients with Type II Diabetes: A Pilot Study.
Prelicensure Students Intern with IBC
Six students were selected to participate in the Independence Blue Cross Nursing Internship Program in the summer of 2012. Christine Black, Carmen Low, Michelle Martin, Marleina Pluguez, Barbara Saba and Stephanie Okeke participated in the 10-week program that offers student interns paid, temporary positions in a community clinic or a health care or insurance administration setting.
Student Receives Scholarship
Tracey Hepner, ASN student at the Geisinger campus, received the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania scholarship and will be honored on October 26, 2012.
