OB/GYN Residency Program
The residency program in obstetrics and gynecology is a fully accredited
four year program that prepares graduates for the full depth and breadth
of practice and fellowship training in the subspecialties. The program
accepts eight residents per year. The Department chairman is Dr. Louis
Weinstein.
The program is based at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, one
of Philadelphia's premier medical centers, and a tertiary
referral center for high risk obstetrics. This unit, which
does approximately 2200 deliveries per year, has state of the art
critical care beds for maternal transport, a large antepartum unit,
and Level III NICU. Jefferson was again listed by US News as one of
the nations top institutions for gynecologic care in the year 2003.
Resident experience in ob and gyn is supplemented by rotations at
our affiliate institutions, West Jersey Hospital –Voorhees, a 5000
delivery per year community hospital in nearby South Jersey.
All major subspecialties, including Gynecologic Oncology,
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Maternal Fetal
Medicine (fellowship program) and Urogynecology are represented.
There is strong emphasis on research and academic activities
for our residents.
We
participate in the National Resident Match Program (ERAS). For more
information, please check this website as it is updated, or contact
the Education Coordinator, Debbie Cini (debbie.cini@jefferson.edu,

Accreditation Status
The residency program has continued under full accreditation of the Residency
Review Committee in Obstetrics and Gynecology under the auspices of the
Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. The program complies
with all special requirements of the Resident Review Committee, and educational
objectives are based upon those published by the Council on Resident
Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology. All residents who complete the
program in good standing are eligible to sit for the certifying examinations
of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Approximately 60%
of residents completing the program enter private practice; approximately
40% choose to enter academic medicine.
