Salary & Benefits

Residents are compensated on a biweekly basis. Direct deposit is available. Salaries are competitive with other programs on a national level. Parking is available in the immediate hospital vicinity, and an annual allowance is provided to assist in defraying parking costs. Comprehensive health benefits, including vision, dental, and prescription drug plans are provided. The house officer has the opportunity to choose from a variety of options, including traditional and managed-care plans, in order to select the options which best meet his/her needs.

Comprehensive professional liability for all duties prescribed and supervised in the education and/or training of the house officer at Jefferson and its affiliates is provided. Term life insurance and short-term disability are provided; long-term disability is available as an option.

Lab coats are provided and laundered free of charge. Evening meals are provided for house staff during on-call obligations.

Annual paid vacation is provided in the amount of four weeks per year beyond the PGY 1 year. As required by the "Regulations Covering the Practice of Medicine in Pennsylvania", two weeks paid vacation are provided in the PGY 1 year.

Leaves of absence for personal or professional reasons are arranged on an individual basis. As the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology has mandated that no more than six weeks of leave shall be taken in a given academic year without the additional time being made up, the Program Director reserves the right to determine if additional training time will be necessary in order for the program to be completed.

Professional counseling for housestaff is available through the Department of Psychiatry. Initial evaluations are performed free of charge, with further sessions being arranged at the discretion of the house staff officer and the therapist.
