  • Can you help me get an F-1 student visa?

What kind of financial documentation must I show OIES?

In order for OIES to be able to issue the student entry document appropriate for you, your financial documentation must be:

  • Original or certified copies of bank statements or a scholarship award letter (photocopies are unacceptable for this application)
  • in English or accompanied by a certified translation
  • Liquid (easily cashed-i.e. money market account, certificate of deposit, etc.) assets available to you for at least your first year of study at Jefferson (value of jewelry or other non-liquid, non-renewable assets cannot be counted as appropriate sources of funding)

For funds provided by a private individual other than yourself, such as a parent or other family member, your financial documentation must be accompanied by an affidavit of support.

You also will need to show these documents to the U.S. Consular official when applying for your visa. You may obtain either two sets of originals of these documents or send certified copies of these documents to OIES with your completed "Request for Student Entry Document," keeping the primary originals for your visa application with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

How much funding do I need to show with these financial documents?

Financial requirements vary from program to program and from year to year. Please see page two of the "Request for Student Entry Document" for current requirements. You also will need to indicate on this form the source of your funding for your second and following years of study at Jefferson.

How long will it take for me to get my student entry document (I-20 for F-1 student status or DS-2019 for J-1 student status)?

Once our office receives a completed "Request for Student Entry Document" packet, we normally have the student entry document and pre-arrival materials ready to be sent to you within two weeks. Failure to provide OIES with all the information and documentation that is required will result in significant processing delays.
