The Alcohol
Research Center, in the Department of Pathology, Cell Biology
and Anatomy comprises a large group of investigators working
on basic alcohol related research. The ARC is funded by a
Center grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse
and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Most of the ARC faculty are independently
funded, many from NIAAA. The main research interests are at
the cellular level trying to understand how ethanol affects
cell functioning. Areas of investigation include effects of
ethanol on cell signaling and ion channel function and on
specific cell signaling components and diagnosis and modulation
of the effects of alcoholism at the cellular level.
