Jay Schneider, PhD, of the Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Cell Biology was a featured speaker at the "2007 Health Education in Lead Poisoning Legislative Informational Forum", sponsored by State Representatives Jim Amman and Peggy Sayers and State Senators Toni Harp and Ed Meyer from Connecticut. Dr. Schneider spoke on "The Scientific Basis for the Detrimental Effects of Lead on the Developing Brain". At the end of this day long event, which was televised live on CT Public Television, he received "Honor and Recognition" by Governor M. Jodi Rell as a "testament to your
outstanding service and commitment to exellence in helping people throughout the
nation understand the horrendous effects of lead poisoning and to continue to
work toward eradicating lead poisoning. Through your work, you have demonstrated
your dedication to the children of our Nation and our State and have begun to set the stage for a healthier nation. Your energy, enthusiasm and devotion to the cause of eradicating lead poisoning is truly impressive. This honor celebrates your many contributions to the prevention of childhood lead poisoning." In addition, Dr. Schneider received an "Official Citation" from the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut in recognition of "your leadership and work for the health and well being of the children. We applaud your efforts to insure that children are safe from the dangers of lead poisoning."
Lastly, Dr. Schneider received a "Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition" from U.S. Representative Christopher Murphy "in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community".
